WASHINGTON (WSVN) — President Donald Trump said he is considering “a friendly takeover of Cuba” as the United States continues ongoing discussions with the island nation.
Trump made the bold remarks on Friday as he was getting ready to depart Washington, D.C.
“The Cuban government is talking with us. They’re in a big deal of trouble, as you know — no money, they have no anything right now, but they’re talking with us, and maybe we’ll have a friendly takeover of Cuba,” he said.
The commander in chief’s comments come amid a period of intensified pressure from the U.S. on Cuba’s communist government, and days after a deadly encounter near Cayo Falcones that left four people dead and six others injured.
